Quilted Memories

Quilted Memories

(1 to 5 days)

Even if you've never made a quilt or held a needle in your hand, you can create a Quilted Memory.  This class is a chance for experienced quilters and non-quilters alike to experiment with the art quilt form and create a small fabric record of a moment in time.  Sewing is optional and can be done by hand.  It's definitely not your grandmother's quilt!

Applying a very free-form approach to appliqué and surface design creates work that is more content than technique driven.  You will explore ways to use fabric to distill experience and emotion into a tactile object of beauty. Some of the methods and materials that will be explored include: freeform (raw edge) appliqué, image transfers, surface design, stamping, staining, simple painting and dying methods, fusing, beading, couching, alternative and traditional bindings.  Sewing machines are optional - bring one if you have want, or choose to add stitching by hand.  Simple hand quilting stitches will be demonstrated.
